History
Originally brewed in England in the 1800’s for export to the Baltic States and Russia where it became the cult drink at the court of the Tsars. Cases were sent to Russian troops fighting in the Crimea. Once the Napoleonic wars closed the trade routes to Europe, the style continued.
Tasting notes
This is a brilliant stout, with plenty of malt character. Low to moderate levels of carbonation with huge roasted, chocolate and burnt malt flavours. Suggestions of dark fruit and flavors of higher alcohols are quite evident. Strong hop characters add a rounded complexity – yet incredibly easy to drink and savour. |
